The Wreath in the Diving Bell
Melbourne is home to several very beautiful buildings in Victorian Architecture. The Block Arcade is one of the most well known. Its corridors lead to a main dome which is beautifully decorated in period architectural detail. There has been many a time when I have wandered in seeking to pull off a shot of the ceiling. I did so a few days before New Years Eve. The ceiling looks different during this time of year because of all the Christmas Decorations. I wandered in with my Olympus E-PL5 with the fish-eye lens attached. This allowed me to capture the whole area of the ceiling from a standing position – far better coverage than what I get from a wide-angle lens. The articulated screen of the E-PL5 meant that I didn’t have to arch my back all the way to be able to pull off this shot, and could comfortably shoot while hand-holding the camera with available light.
