The Space Station on Earth
I spent part of the week before Christmas in Canberra. I headed up to the Telstra Tower at Black Mountain just around sunset to capture some time-lapse footage of the city. As I looked up at this communications tower, it dawned on me that at just the right perspective, it gives off a vibe of something out of the Justice League comic books… Anyway – I digress – I happened to notice that the stars were just beginning to become visible and allowed myself the opportunity to grab this long exposure shot.
Looking over the national capital, the Telstra Tower stands at around 800m above sea level. This is a communications tower which rises a little over 195m above the summit of the mountain, and offers an enclosed observation deck, and two outdoor observation decks. This is perhaps the best place to watch the weather systems float across Canberra. It is open to the public till 10p.m., which is just as well, given that it is that tourist spot that one can visit after a day of sightseeing in Canberra’s many other attractions, and after having eaten dinner.
